Ria Lendering

In the year 2000, Ria discovered the joy of golf. Retirement marked the beginning of a new chapter. When asked when she started golfing, she replied “too late,” because she finds the sport so enjoyable. She would love to hit a hole-in-one one day; that would be amazing.

Twice a week, she takes to the course with her partner, enjoying their shared passion. Additionally, she loves participating in the ladies’ afternoon on Tuesdays. While she once tackled the full 18 holes with enthusiasm, age has led her to a more relaxed pace, now content with a satisfying round of 9.

Her secret to golfing success? Practice, practice, practice. As a tip to beginners, she suggests spending hours at the driving range.

Golf isn’t her only passion. Beyond the golf course, she finds much joy in the depths of the ocean. With an impressive 952 dives to her name, she has experienced many beautiful dives, including the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. In Curacao, she enjoys snorkeling with her partner to observe the fishes.

My golfing journey began in December 1983 when, after just three lessons, my former pro gave me the green light to step onto the course. In my very first match against a low handicapper, I played exceptionally well and received a shower of compliments. It marked the start of my deep affection for the game. 

Fast forward to becoming a club champion not once, but twice, stands as a testament to the dedication and progress I’ve poured into this beautiful sport. 

One of my most cherished golfing memories happened in Costa Rica, where Old Quarry stole my heart. The tranquility of the course, coupled with encounters with wildlife in Zimbabwe, created memories that stay with every swing. 

Then came the magical Hole 8, where I achieved every golfer’s dream – a hole-in-one. A moment frozen in time, forever linked to the heartbeat of the course. 

When it comes to playing partners, I lean towards those who appreciate the quiet and keep the game flowing. The blend of tranquility and efficiency enhances the joy of each round. 

For beginners venturing into the world of golf, my advice is simple: cultivate inner peace on the course. More than a sport, golf is a journey towards joy, improvement, and shared moments. So, swing easy, find your rhythm, and savor the tranquility. May your golfing journey be as rewarding as mine. Here’s to the pursuit of inner calm on the greens! Cheers to the golfing journey!

Member of the Month December

Ray Mol

I began my golf journey at the age of 6, at Old Quarry. Initially finding it dull, I tried soccer, but that grew boring too. The day I joined my father for a round of golf, I instantly fell in love with the game.

My favorite golf memories include winning a Steve Rashford tournament, earning a three-night stay at Aruba with my dad. And also playing at the breathtaking Pebble Beach in Cali Carmel – the most beautiful course by the sea with stunning cliffs. Being a member at Curaçao Golf and Squash Club, is a no-brainer. It’s close to my home, and the post-game atmosphere is way more enjoyable than over at Blue Bay.

If I had to pick a favorite hole at the club, it’d be the sixth. I came close to a hole-in-one, hitting the ball against the flag. My tip for fellow golfers: don’t swing too hard. Golf isn’t just a sport for me; it’s a source of joy, improvement, and shared moments. The good company in the club makes the whole experience even more special. Cheers to the golfing journey!

Willem de Haes

I started playing golf when I was about 14 or 15 years old, and it was my parents who inspired me. I went with my father to the Eindhoven golf course, and I soon decided to give it a try myself. I quickly got the hang of it and became addicted to the sport.

My favorite golf memory so far was when I got to play at the Villa d’Este golf course in Milan. It was such a beautiful course, and that’s one of the things I love most about golfing. Golf courses are often located in unique and beautiful places, allowing you to go to places you might never have been otherwise. That’s what makes this sport so special to me.

If I had to give one tip to beginners, it would be to make sure to have a good grip on the golf club. A good grip is essential for a good swing and accurate shots.

As for my bucket list, playing at the Augusta National Golf Club is at the top. This course is world-famous and is used for major tournaments. It’s just a stunning course and a dream for any golfer to play there someday.

A funny golf anecdote I experienced while playing golf is when people think they can play, but then accidentally hit the ball towards the clubhouse. It always brings some laughs on the golf course. I have been a member of my golf club for 8 years now. I was asked to become a professional and have been here ever since. I like it so much that I can’t imagine wanting to be anywhere else. Golf has truly become a passion of mine, and I enjoy it every day.

It all began when I lived in England for a year as a child. There, I became fascinated by the beautiful green bowling greens they use for bowling in England. That was the moment when my love for greens started. About 25 years ago, a friend invited me to join her for a game of golf, and that was the beginning of a wonderful golf journey.

I have been a member of our golf club for approximately 7 years now, and what I love about this club is the camaraderie. After rounds, there are always drinks, and it’s a bit different from what I was used to in the Netherlands. The social aspect of the club is truly fantastic.

What do I do for the club? Well, I organize competitions and also assist in organizing tournaments on the island. It’s fantastic to combine my passion for golf with organizing fun activities for our members. It’s really a perfect match!

And when I’m at the golf club’s bar, my go-to drink is a refreshing 0.0 Heineken. And if I’m a bit hungry, I like to order a delicious cheese and tomato toastie. That’s the perfect reward for me after a day of golfing.

Several of our female club members showcased their skills and determination in a golf tournament held in the Dominican Republic, and they absolutely crushed it! Their outstanding performance earned them well-deserved recognition and prizes. It’s a testament to the talent and dedication of our club’s female golfers, and we couldn’t be prouder.
